First Post – Crock Pot Homemade Baked Beans

Welcome to my first post and first recipe.

If you haven’t already read the about me section,  that’s the best place to start as it will be updated, but at the moment i will start with a little introduction, I’m  a wife, mother of three, and  i love cooking and gardening, the planting and harvesting part not the weeding but who can say they like weeding! I’m  in the process of cutting out all processed foods, growing my own herbs, fruit and vegetables (in pots because i don’t actually have a garden) and getting everything else organic for as cheap as possible because these days we all need to save the pennies.

The first recipe I’m sharing is crock pot homemade baked beans, i love love love my crock pot or slow cooker which ever you wish to call it, for me it saves time and money i make 300g of chicken breast feed a family of 5 that includes 2 grown men, me a teenager and a 1 year old using my crock pot i love it!!

So first of all you need to decide which beans you are going to use, i use either cannellini, haricot or borlotti but you could also use navy or a mixture and include kidney and black bean the possibilities are endless, for this recipe though im going to use cannellini and i soak them over night for at least 24 hours. Then prepare your ingredients and throw it all in the crock pot and leave it for about 6 hours. The first time you cook these keep an eye on it then you know how long it will take, i usually double this recipe sometimes just doubling the sauce if i don’t have enough beans in and then i freeze what we don’t use.

Homemade Baked Beans

3 medium red onions, chopped

4 cloves of Garlic pressed

2tsp Paprika

1/2 tsp ground cloves

3 heaped Tbsp 100% tomato puree

500g passata

300ml water

250g soaked dried beans

1tsp brown sugar

Boil you beans according to package instruction before placing them into the crockpot.

Add all ingredients to your crock pot and put on low for about 6-8 hours, if you want more runny sauce for them to go further then add an extra carton of passata and more herbs and spices.
Bean recipe can be doubled and frozen.. thaw completely before use.

    1. We get ours from Amazon because they are big packets and are organic, we mostly use haricot beans, because they are smaller and my hubby likes them better but you can find non organic canelli beans with the wholefoods in the supermarket. 🙂

  1. The best of both worlds. Love homemade baked beans. Love crockpot recipes. What is passata? That’s an ingredient I am not familiar with and not sure I’ve ever seen in the states.
